Gary Megson will be a relieved man this morning and not because of the recent upturn in Bolton's fortunes on the pitch. No, he will be a relieved man with the news that Ferrie Bodde the Swansea midfielder and long term Bolton transfer target has suffered another serious injury.

Bodde was a summer long transfer target of Bolton but Swansea's valuation of the 27 year old midfielder was much higher than the amount the Whites were willing to pay. The feeling of disappointment at losing out must now be tinged with relief with the news that Bodde lasted just eight minutes of Saturdays match with Sheffield United before he felt something click in his knee. The replacement graft of the cruciate ligament on his left knee had ruptured and he has also torn a cartilage.

Bodde had hardly played since originally injuring the knee last November and lasting just minutes into only his third match back this latest blow must now cast doubt over his career. Considering another Bolton target, Jimmy Bullard, only lasted 37 minutes in his debut for Hull before also sustaining a knee injury that has kept him sidelined since then it may just be that Lady Luck has been keeping an eye on Bolton's transfer dealing recently.

With all the recent troubles at the Reebok consider the position if we had signed Bodde and Bullard and both big money signings were out with long term injuries. Perhaps Gary Megson can be forgiven for thinking that somewhere, somebody up there likes him.
