I have recently been critical of Gary Megson, and performaces improved.
Even though it appears a player meeting led by Kevin Davis is the reason for the improvement, I don't want to tempt fate so here goes. To sign him, or not to sign him - that is the the question regarding Ivan Klasnic. The Croatian goal poatcher is currently on loan from Nantes for the princly sum of £200 000. We can, apparently sign him for £1.4M as part of the deal but Gary Megson is undecided. Why? "He just scores Goals" said Megson. Pardon? Run that one by me again, he is a striker who just scores goals, and that's a problem??
OK I am obviously missing something here, yes he doesn't hold the line like Kevin Davis or track back well but he does the main job of a striker, scores goals. Seeing we cannot keep a clean sheet at the moment surely we need that. Look at the stats, he has scored 5 in 13 games (6 as sub) a strike rate of one every 2.6 games while Elmander is still stuggling with 8 goals in 37 games (5 as sub) a strike rate of one every 4.6 games. Look at value for money, and not taking into account wages as I’m sure Elmander is on a better deal that Klasnic, with Elmander costing around £8M that’s a cool £1m a goal while Klasnic is costing £40,000 a goal.Surely its good business to quietly tie him onto a deal in January before someone else does.
