Liverpool’s deserved thumping of Manchester United last weekend has had the statistics men reaching for the record books, and revealed some depressing numbers for my very own Bolton Wanderers.
It has been 100 League games since that team from Old Trafford lost by more than one goal, and in the same period guess which other premier team has suffered the most "big" defeats…..yes it’s us with Bolton losing 48 of the last 100, 28 of which were by more than one goal.
Perhaps looking at this season would be better. While we have the lowest number of drawn matches, three, we also have the lowest number of clean sheets, all of five, tied with the mighty Hull and Pompy.
Our lack of firepower, despite a resurgent Kevin Davies, is evident as we have failed to score in more matches that any other club, 14 and have the lowest number of different goal scorers, a paltry seven. This is not all that surprising with our new star striker, Johan Elmander, scoring only five goals in the 21 games he has played so far.
Based on his signing on fee alone that’s about £2.2M a goal. One thing we do share with the top of the league is in the number of games we have come from behind, just two although it has to be said that they fall behind quite a bit less than we do.
Still this must get better even though we drew with WBA, however that last time we won there was in 1952! Still Stats don’t mean anything, do they??
